Anutterlyuniquehomemadesci-fi-action-sexploitationbuddyimage,RunawayNightmareisasublimelyamateurishmessthatmustbeenduredtobebelieved.TwopalsrunningawormranchinDeathValleyverylongforsomeexcitementtocuttheboredomoftheirlifestyles.Theirdesiresarefulfilledwhentheywitnessmobstersburyingagorgeousblondegirlaliveinthedesert,saveher,andaretakencaptivebyaruthlesssquadronoffemininerevolutionariesfortheirdifficulty.Ourheroesareveryfirsttorturedandthenusedassexslaves,buteventuallythegirlganginvitesthemtojointheircause,andtheybattlethesyndicatetorecoverabriefcasefulloftakenplatinum.RunawayNightmareatfirstfollowsastandardmalefantasytemplate(kidnappedbydominantfemalesforstudsolution),butitisn'tpornographic.ThemaleleadscrackjokeslikeadolescentversionsofBobHopeandBingCrosby,butnoneofit'sfunny.Theplotincludesradioactiveaccidents,explodingwarehouses,andclubfights,butthereisnoaction.First-and-only-timedirectorMichaelCartelisfondoflong,airlessscenesinwhichnothinghappens,givingRunawayNightmarethebizarrewakingfantasyfeelingthatbadlybuiltmoviessometimesachieveaccidentally.Thedialogueisridiculous,thesituationsareludicrous,andthereisn'tanactorinsight.Brief,clumsily-insertednudescenesaremeanttodoubleforcharactersinthenarrative,neverthelessthewomen'sbodiesaredifferent,theirfacesareobscured,andthey'reshotonvideotaperatherthanthemoviestockutilizedfortherestofthepicture.Inspiteof(andbecauseof)thesedubiousRunaway,virtuesNightmareisaone-of-a-kindcinematicexperience,afascinatingfailurethatreachesbrandnewlevelsofweirdness,anditsobscurehousevideolaunchisreallyworthseekingoutforthejadedandthecuriouddd
